The POET'S CORNER

POET'S CORNER by Jeff Hartzer
#023: April, 2006

APRIL SHOWERS: a collage of rainy snippets, song titles, and verse.

__Whan that Aprille, with his shoures soote/ The droghte of March hath perced to the roote/ And bathed every veyne in swich licour/ Of which vertu engendred is the flour...
__I only wanted to see you laughing in the purple rain/ Purple rain purple rain/ I only wanted to see you bathing in the purple rain/Let me guide you to the purple rain...
__Listen to the rhythm of the falling rain/ telling me just what a fool I’ve been/ I wish it would go away and let me cry in vain and let me be alone again/ Listen to the falling rain/Pitter patter/pitter patter...
__I can`t stand the rain/Against my window/ Bringing back sweet memories/Now that we`ve parted/ There`s one sound that I just can`t stand...
__And the rain fell downon the cold grey town/ And the phone kept ringing/ And we made sweet love/ Everybody's dreaming/ Everybody's scheming/ Until the rain fell down/And the phone kept ringing/ And the rain...rain...rain...rain...rain...rain...rain...
__I'm singing in the rain/ Just singing in the rain/ What a glorious feeling/I'm happy again/ I walk down the lane/ With a happy refrain/ I'm singing, singing in the rain/ In the rain/In the rain...
__Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens/ Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens/ When the dog bites/ When the bee stings/ When I'm feeling sad/ I simply remember my favorite things...
__Raindrops keep falling on my head / but that doesn't mean my eyes will soon be turning red/ Crying's not for me,/ ‘cause I'm never gonna stop the rain by complaining. ...
__Now, once again where does it rain? / On the plain! / The rain in Spain stays mainly in the plain...
__This is the end, beautiful friend/ All the children are insane/ Waiting for the summer rain...
__I can show you that when it starts to rain, everything's the same/ When the Rain comes down/ I can show you, I can show you/ Rain, I don't mind/ When it rains and shines,/ It's just a state of mind...
__The rain is falling through the mist of sorrow that surrounded me/ The sun could never thaw away all the bliss that lays around me/ Let it rain, let it rain,/ Let your love rain down on me...

Rain Songs: Another song about the rain... Kiss the rain... Sunny rain... Midnight rain... On a rainy night in Georgia... Joy and pain, Sunshine and rain... I miss you like the deserts miss the rain... Hands like rain... Tears in the rain... Let the rain fall down... Rain King... Murder rains... She's my kind of rain... Come rain or shine... Raining on Sunday... Kentucky rain... Too much rain over paradise... I wish it would rain... Feels like rain... Help pour out the rain... Rainmaker... Velvet rain... Rainbow connection... Rains down in Africa... Sunny rain... Lost in the rain... Flowers never bend with the rainfall... ‘No rain... No rain... No rain...’ A day without rain... It’s like rain... Dancing for rain... Rainy day woman... Rainy day mushroom pillow... Somewhere over the rainbow... She's my kind of rain... Why does it always rain on me?... The rain must fall... Rain song... Fool in the rain... Who'll stop the rain?... She's like a rainbow... Fire and rain... November rain... Kissing in the rain... It's raining men... Blue eyes crying in the rain... Sunshine crying in the rain... Have you ever seen the rain?... Raining in Baltimore... Rain Man... Tears and rain... Silver rain... I'm only happy when it rains... Alabama rain... A hard rain’s gonna fall... Rain on the roof... Early morning rain... Snow and rain... Walking in the rain... Devil in the rain... Covered in rain... Acid rain...

And a rainy day poem I once wrote: The smell of rain comes in to dance with me where I sit quietly/ while it plays with my skin/ The smell of rain brings cherry blossoms moistened with a kiss/ The smell of rain comes in like horses drawn tight against the sky / The smell of rain comes from sea skies strung out over beaches and childhood naps/ where summertime swam and my heart got left behind...

Here’s to getting some April Showers in our our high desert land...
