Martin Terry: PERSONAL STATEMENT My work is tied together through manifestation of the "collective unconscious." My images are a tap into this energy and knowledge, both of which flow through the organic and inorganic worlds. By manipulating various combinations of materials, I bring these ideas into a physical realm that bridges the gap between the extremes of pure thought and the material world. I utilize "found" objects and combine them in a painterly fashion with colors and shapes, in a mixed media technique, creating low?relief collages. My work explores the space between the second and third dimensions. My most recent work focuses on memory, attraction of opposites, and the mapping of the "collective unconscious." Martin Terry: BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH Martin Terry was born in Poughkeepsie, New York, overlooking the mighty Hudson River. He painted his first original work of art at age 11 and decided at that time to devote the rest of his life to the exploration of forms of personal expression. In addition to working as a commercial artist, Martin has used his art in therapeutic and rehabilitation institutions and served as Program Coordinator of a rehabilitation program for the Mental Health Association of Dutchess County in New York State. In 1990 Martin moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico and in 1997 relocated to Dallas, Texas. His work is displayed in public and private collections across the United States and in Australia.
