Interesting
facts:
- Rabbits, hares and picas belong to the "Lagomorpha"
order of mammals, not "Rodentia."
- Bunnies are born bald and blind; leverets (baby hares)
are born furred and sighted.
- Rabbits are good swimmers!
- Lagomorphs have TWO pairs of upper and lower incisors.
Their teeth grow constantly and must be maintained with lots of chewing.
- Those adorable tails are known as "scuts."
- Rabbits molt regularly. They groom constantly and need
lots of roughage to prevent hairballs.
- Rabbits can purr ... and scream.
- European rabbits are the ones known for extensive underground
burrows and tunnels known as warrens. Hares rest in above-ground divots
known as forms.
- Rabbits recycle their food. (Use your imagination.)
This is known as refection or caprophagy.
- Lagomorphs are crepuscular, most active around dawn
and dusk.
Unlike Bambi's Thumper, our rabbits usually thump both hind legs at the
same time.
