A legend in his own mind,Jeff Hartzer ( Mr.H ) , is a man born to teach. His teaching career began as chief baby sitter for his ten-year-younger brother. It is no surprise that his brother is now a millionaire as well as the parent of three kids. While a high school senior, Jeff's first classroom experience was as a Catechism teacher in the Catholic Church. One needs not look farto see the results of that.

His first paid teaching position was at The Bolles School where he taught British Literature, sailed Hobie Cats, and was the Dean of Students (1973-81). Mr.Hartzer's most recent paid teaching gig has been a nine year hitch with Albuquerque Public Schools (1990-99).

He taught the Gifted and Talented students at Rio Grande High School. He was also teacher of the Twice Exceptional and Gifted students at Van Buren Middle School.

Other classrooms have found Jeff over the years. He was a Native American tutor ; a mid-school teacher for the Earthsong Waldorf School ; an Education Specialist/Counselor at the Villa Santa Maria ; a Youth Corps Supervisor (ah...Litter Picking!) for the Washington State Department of Ecology; and Jeff has been a Creative Writing Teacher for the Tacoma Community College ,the Tacoma Metro Park District and for the Rio Grande Writers' Project.

Mr. Hartzer graduated with Honors in English from The University of the South. While at Sewanee, he was fortunate enough to have been a student of Andrew Lytle, Allen Tate and Charles Trawick Harrison.

The University of North Florida was the locale of Mr. Hartzer first discovering the 'joys' of teaching/education classwork. When one considers the rigors of becoming educated as a teacher and after that to become certified to teach in the state of your choosing , it is no wonder there is a teacher shortage . And don't forget those outstanding salaries and benefits.

Mr. Hartzer was granted a Masters in Secondary Education by UNF in 1977. He became certified to teach in both Florida and Washington . Currently he is certified to teach k-12 in both General and Special Education for the State of New Mexico. He only recently gave up the outstanding salaries and benefits of classroom teaching for a new life of self-employment.

He is available for online consultation and counseling regarding the truly chosen field of Education. As Geoffrey Chaucer says one must,

Gladly learn and Gladly teach.
