OK, we've all heard the comments along the order of What's the big deal? It's just a dog. My reply in respect to the Three Schippeteers follows:

Just a dog does not open the gate or unscrew the jar of peanuts despite the lack of opposable thumbs. Just a dog does not rearrange furniture in order to create a staircase to the baked goods cooling on the table. Just a dog does not come up with elaborate mouse hunting strategies. Just a dog does not perch on the top of a low wall to survey the 'hood. Just a dog does not pretend to be invisible when caught raiding the rabbits' food. (Come to think of it, just a dog isn't interested in rabbit food.) Just a dog does not tunnel under blankets, clothes, what have you, for the ultimate cuddle. Just a dog doesn't run and play in ways that put the best running back to shame. Just a dog doesn't put on a Broadway calibre production every time you get within 20 feet of the biscuits. Just a dog is a good thing indeed. But a Schippeteer is an extraordinary companion who just happens to be a dog!
