Melanie is home tonight after a tearful goodbye with the hospital technician. EVERYONE loves Miss M. Our Skippertown.com friends will appreciate the fact that The Great Jordano and Skipperdoodle have been very well-behaved and super docked-tail-wagging to the max upon Miss Mellie's return to the flock at SKIPPERTOWN.

Miss Melanie is undergoing surgery today for a torn anterior cruciate ligament. Doggie aspirin was to no avail and things got worse for her leg/knee since my last 'blog entry' on 10/13.

A schip-friendly dog of ours, Joplin (see pic below right), underwent this surgery first on one knee and a year later on the other knee. He was very active all his life and was much more the 'sports dog' than is Melanie. He and his knees thrived after each of the two surgeries.

We are hopeful that like Joplin Miss M will come through this ordeal swimmingly and continue mightily with her many chewie chases soon.

Melanie is limping from time to time recently.
Is this due to a change in the weather? Arthritus? A sprain? Or did she just spend way too long 'on guard' for lizards in the garden?
At what point do you think it is time to hit the vet's office?
