Just washed and dried my new Tom Petty tee shirt and so it must be true that I attended his FEVERish Full Moon concert last week...what a fever...such fervor...and thank god for me (and my good wife) life goes on after full moons pale and wane.

Tonight thanks to an illegal taping on what we used to call a 'vcr' by webmaster wayne, the incredibly great HBO gig of Robin Williams Live on Broadway was much enjoyed by all.

The show was one of the FRESHEST and most CHAOTICALLY superior views of this past almost a year since the BIG NINE ONE ONE. No holds barred on every level. Had to call 911 for oxygen, I was laughing past tears . And what a year of tears and fears. Williams says it all in his unimitable way. Gots to find that on dvd. Or put up a few more tuna fish for an HBO add-on to our directv satellite transmissions.

Huge pillars of smoke rose above the Jemez Mountains northwest of the 'burque today. Sadly, more trees are exploding into flame. Also today, a drunken driver ploughed into a large container truck of Atomic Garbage in Carlsbad, New Mexico. The driver was charged with DWI . Strange times these, when drunks do that and others fly planes into buildings while our President nearly chokes to death on pretzels.

The new Almanac promises a fiercely cold winter . Europe is under water ; O.K. not all of Europe...Massive hurricanes are predicted for this year. Worser still ( can you say that? ) is the fact that our GW-prez-a-kid survives choking on pretzels to move forward ( with his ghost of a VP and an Asshcrofty Dude who lost an election to a dead guy! ) with a tireless media push toward the secret war against his Father's unvanquished enema.

PLEASE...the pestilence of death ray mosquitos, hurricanes, flaming trees, and Martha's current stew is all we can handle right now. Let BRUCE'S latest treasure THE RISING herald another Bull Market RISING at least for a week or so; let some things pass...If you wanna go fight, yo go bro...but...let's get through this Labor Day thing and then let's ride what's left of this year of the HORSE through the big 9-11-2002; the stables can't be that far away.

Concert Chaos
Last night watching the VH1 special on the inyrds of skynyrds was most interesting after
seeing the current rendition of Skynyrd with only two founding members. The latest VH1 show makes Artemus Pyle look like a North Florida beach bum red neck who is completely insane to boot. I must say again that I am happy to have finally seen a "skynyrd" show. And as much as I like Ronnie Van Zant, his brother is in there pitching a good game.

With the advent of Casino style gambling in our state of New Mexico, the entertainment facilities are vastly increasing and much improved. Although in my mind no summer season will ever compete with the maiden voyage of what is now called "The Journal Pavillion" (aka. the 'Mesa del Sol Amphitheater') two summers back when Black Crowes with Jimmy Page, The Who, Dylan, Phil Lesh, Pearl Jam to name a few opened up the venue, This summer has been no slacker.

Native Roots and Rhythms
Tonight my wife and I go to Santa Fe for what is called ,"the nation's leading gathering of North American musical and performing arts talent" at the Paolo Soleri Amphitheater. Though not exactly a Rock Extravaganza, it should prove to be a fine evening under the clear blue skies, 6300 feet above sea level.

Later this week, it's a night with Tom Petty. Petty is a North Florida Native. I have always loved his music and his before-their-time videos. l was so moved the last time I saw him (Seattle,1984) that I loudly shouted out WILL YOU MARRY ME? to my wildly dancing date, Debra Landau . She yelled, 'YES' and is my life partner to this day.

Between now and October all of the following acts will pass through our High Desert Enchanted land:
Melissa Ethridge, J.J. Cale, Creedence Clearwater Revisited, Journey, YES, Rush, Olivia N.John, Chris Isaak,
The Neville Bros., Lenny Kravitz, PINK, Wynonna, Tony Bennett ooh can't wait!, Natalie Cole, Chicago, WAYNE Newton, Whoopi Goldberg, R.E.O.Speedywagon,
Harry Bellafonte, Tony Orlando by himself!, Bo Diddley his wife is from here, Garrison Keilor rocks!, Al Jarreau, Air Supply, Sparxx, Jackson Browne, Frankie Valli and the 4 Seasons, Lou Christie, The Association, Rascals, Bonnie Raitt, Lyle Lovett, Santana, Goo Goo Dolls, Eddie Money, and the incredible, Los Radiators.

Today in 1969, Woodstock began.
And you must be aware that Elvis died in 1977 on August 16th
which is the same day Babe Ruth died in 1948.
And, thank God, Celebrity Shark Week
with Nigel Douchehead comes to a bloody end on the
Discovery Channel.

Last night under the new moon and a ton of stars, I finally saw my homies from Jacksonville, Florida playing all their hits and misses with the raspy voice of Johnny Van Zant a dead on look alike for Ronnie Van Zant.
The site was the Sandia Casino outdoor amphitheater. Once again the Natives are building the best venues in our Enchanted Land. The City of Albuquerque is hard put to compete these days.
Skyryd was way better than I had presumed they would be. I have a dvd featuring Johnny Van Zant and have really missed the original crew while watching that. But in the flesh the band was top notch.
Yes, they played Freebird (as the entire encore). And many other oldies like 'The Hunt' , a song that particularly reminds me of the Jacksonville rich folk/ poor folk disparities. 'Three Steps', 'Gimme Back My Bullets', 'That Smell'...not a bad moment in their set. And no crappie warm up band...'twas Lynyrd Skynyrd from an on time start to a moon setting finish.

I was bitten by a mosquito today. This is a rare occurrence in New Mexico. Am I going to die of West Nile Virus? We'll see. Did the terrorists set free the West Nile Mosquitos in New York a few years back?

Their little buzzsawzz of terror are now spreading westward through Texas and undoubtedly will be in our high desert country soon where they can join up with those ornery deer mice to deposit bits of hanta virus and West Nile juices hither and thither.

OOH Baby...Fresh Hanta Nile Chaos virus. Can't wait.
