A development has occurred recently
that is interesting yet poignant and a bit sad.
Often the 'runt' of a new batch of bunnies
appears above ground before
the new batch-o-buns appears.
At first, we thought this was cute
and that this was just an 'aggressive explorer'.
Not so.
We now have seen that repeatedly
this new bunny passes away
after leaving the 'new batch'.
Apparently this is a natural thing for 'the runt'
which is denied milk from mother rabbit.
This allows the more healthy bunnies to prosper and
grow strong.
We have tried feeding the runt
or re-directing it to 'mother'
when she is above ground all to no avail.

A new batch of five baby bunnies appeared at Bunnytown on 9/11/01.
Perhaps that was the only good news that whole day.

Time flies by and those ten became 24 and thanks to loving adoptions,
we are now back to an even dozen...

Soon the adventure of gathering discarded mulch leaves
and piling them high in Bunnytown will commence.

Autumn in New Mexico is simply grand
and the leaving behind hot afternoons
(it is a dry heat , they say) will be welcomed by the buns.
